Dangerous stuff

I am attempting a dangerous experiment, I have switched posts in my two blogs placing the religious message in this political blog and the political/scientific message in my other religious blog! But I guess this can be done by the writer – I have poetic license!!

So, the topic is as usual on the deliverance the Blessed Virgin offered throughout the ages in time of War!!

AND REGARDING THE BIRTH OF THE MALTESE IDENTITY WITHIN THE EUROPEAN MIND (actually within ‘the world’s mind’ – for apart from Russia, Africa and distant India and China,the rest did not exist as yet)

During the Maltese historical experience as a Nation when did that defining moment occur when, within the collective consciousness of the other peoples who inhabit the Earth, we Maltese became considered ‘a Nation’ ?  

Actually, this moment could also be defined as the same crucial time when we did indeed become the ‘Maltese people’!

That period was a moment of siege, of trial, a time when we overcame an enemy and experienced his departure and his defeat. That event coincided with the Feast of Our Lady’s Nativity, September 8, 1565 AD.

That is the defining moment in history (as explained to me by a person who has indeed deep insight into the matter) when our people, the Maltese people, were suddenly recognised as a distinct and separate Nation by the ‘others’.

Therefor, I question the fact whether there could be some coincidence between the Feast’s date and the timing of our Nation’s identity or birth vis-a-vis foreign recognition (maybe not at par, however…. the Maltese appeared! – they were not hobbits, slightly orcish though!)

Then came the Second World War. KABOOM !!!

And a certain Mr Churchill was being taunted by the temptation offered him by Mr Halifax to give over certain territory to a certain Mr Benito – otherwise known as the wicked Fascist Duce El-Mussolini in person – This actually occured during the time when the Brits and French were kicked into the English Channel by Herr Hitler’s bent cross (evacuation from Dunkirk). The ideas and suggestions of appeasement are recorded within the war cabinet minutes of May 27, 1940 AD – A very gloomy point and dark moment during WWII no doubt, however Churchill did not give over this territory to Hitler (territory included Gibraltar and Malta) and that was the right choice.

Following ‘Operation Pedestal’ (1942, the ‘Santa Marija Convoy’) or what was left of the convoy, entered the Grand Harbour accompanied by the Maltese manned tug boats, coincidentally this occured on August 15, 1942 – just in time for another Feast of the Blessed Virgin – the Assumption.

Now, two interesting points here emerge:- the first being that the aeroplanes from the US aircraft carrier ‘Furious’ were taken to safety in Malta (these were later used in the Battle of El Alamein in North Africa) and the second most crucial point to mention is that the US OHIO brought enough oil to prevent the Allied Forces in Malta to capitulate the Island to the Nazis – a plan which – (hadn’t Operation Pedestal succeeded) was to be carried out on August 31, 1942 AD !!

It is evident that the fact that Malta did not fall into Axis hands enabled a quicker victory in North Africa against Rommel’s bent cross and also enabled the beginning of the Southern invasion of Italy by the Allied Forces.

In Conclusion:-

1) the Southern push against Hitler was enabled in the above mentioned manner

3) At Fatima all these events were outlined (including the end of WW1 and the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary carried out in 1984 by Pope John Paul II - which possibly caused the fall of the Berlin Wall)
